Technology Summary
Nanotechnology attracted great attention in recent years mainly because the progress in measurement equipment proves the relationship between the unique phenomena associated with substance in very small scale in the nano dimension. Discovery of new property provides opportunities for new application , which brings revolutionary impact to the industry. After the 80’s, the advancement in analytical equipment makes it possible to observe, to study and to manipulate the substance in the nano scale. Nanotechnology strongly relies on the equipment; with the better equipment, the better research can be conducted. Therefore, the goal of the NanoTechnology Research Center is to build the world class core equipment and R&D environment that can provide both excellent software (talents, technology) and hardware (equipment and instrument), which is expected to drive the technical innovation and to extend industrial applications.
Current Status
Establish Common Laboratory/Open Laboratories: Establish the professional technical service resources and abilities for nanotechnology, and set up knowledge based nanonetwork and the common laboratory according to the requirements of key projects, and in compliance with the planned schedule.
Develop Measurement, Analysis and Process Equipments
– planning on measurement and process equipments, integration of resources and facilities built-up.
– integration of various domain knowledge to develop new equipments
– integration of the key technology and industrial applications in nanotechnology to develop measurement/ process equipments.
Accomplishments / Industry Impact
The common laboratory located in building 67 at Chung Hsing Compound of ITRI will be able to provide the open lab space and common equipments/facilities in the aspects of nanomaterials characterization, nanofabrications, measurements/analyses/standards, simulation and design etc, for ITRI, industrial partners, and academia collaborators. Services in the characterization of nanostructure, composition, bonding, or magnetic, optical, and electrical properties of nanomaterials, nanodevices, and systems will be provided for various field of R&D and industrial applications (e.g. IC, flat panel display, optical communications, optical storage, packaging, energy storage etc.).
